Industrialization and small-batch production of a refrigerated case
Horée launched the development of a refrigerated cosmetic case with a “bento box” design, combining optimized insulation and condensation management. Kickmaker brought its expertise in product engineering and innovative insulating materials.
Project abstract
◾️ The challenge:
For this project, Horée aimed to design a compact and efficient device to keep cosmetic products at low temperatures. The goal was to maximize insulation while minimizing footprint, with an integrated condensation management system.
◾️ The solution:
Kickmaker developed a product based on a “bento box” structure, integrating high-performance insulating materials and a condensation collection mechanism. The solution combines practicality with thermal performance. Kickmaker developed the product and assembled it in small batches at its Paris micro-factory.
◾️ The benefits:
An approach addressing three key challenges:
1️⃣ Optimized thermal insulation to preserve product freshness.
2️⃣ A compact, ergonomic format aligned with design constraints.
3️⃣ Controlled condensation to prevent moisture buildup.
Technical developments
This product is the result of a collaboration between Horée and Kickmaker. As a technology partner, Kickmaker played a key role in the technical development:
- Design of a “bento box” structure with an intermediate layer integrated between the base and the lid.
- Testing of various insulating materials (cork, mineral wool) to achieve the best balance between thermal performance and reduced thickness.
- Optimization of device dimensions to meet a compact 11 × 18 cm footprint.
- Development of a condensation management system using a collector and radiator heat.
- Integration of a magnetic system to ensure secure opening and closing.
- Small-batch assembly at Kickmaker’s Paris micro-factory.
